Tips to prevent holiday stress and depression

When stress is at its maximum, it’s hard to stop and regroup. Try to prevent anxiety and depression in the first place.

Reach out. Seek community or other social events or gatherings if you feel lonely or isolated. Many may have websites, support groups, social media sites, or virtual events. They can offer support and companionship. It may also help to talk to a friend or family member about your anxiety. Try reaching out with a message, a call, or a video chat.

Volunteering your time or helping others also is an excellent way to level up your spirits and strengthen your friendship. For instance, consider dropping off a meal and dessert at a friend’s home.

Be realistic. As families change and become nuclear, traditions change as well. Choose a few to carry out and be open to creating new ones. For instance, find new ways to celebrate together, such as exchanging photos, emails, or videos, if your kids or other relatives can’t come to your house. Or catch up on a virtual video call. Find ways to celebrate, even though your holiday plans might look different this year.

Stick to a budget. Don’t attempt to buy happiness with an avalanche of presents. Try these alternatives:

  • Donate to a charity in someone’s name.
  • Give homemade gifts.
  • Start a family gift exchange.
Stress-free Holidays

Don’t abandon healthy habits. Let the holidays not become an excuse to indulge. Overindulgence adds to your stress and guilt. Try these suggestions:

  • Don’t go overboard on sweets, cheese, or drinks.
  • Eat healthy meals.
  • Get plenty of sleep.
  • Include physical exercises in your daily routine.
  • Try stretches, meditation, or yoga for deep-breathing.

Take a breather. Make some time and space for yourself. Find an activity you enjoy doing. Indulge in a move that reduces stress by clearing your mind, calming your breathing, and restoring the internal balance.

Some options may include:

  • Take a walk at night and stargaze.
  • Listen to soothing music.
  • Read a book.

Seek professional help if you need it. You can find yourself feeling persistently sad or anxious, plagued by physical complaints, unable to sleep, irritable and low, and unable to face routine chores despite your best efforts. If these feelings last for a long time, talk to a health professional.

Take control of the stress free holiday

Don’t let the holidays or the festivities become something you dread. Alternatively, take steps to avoid the stress and depression that may arise during the holidays. Learn to identify the causes of your stress, such as financial burdens or personal demands, so that before they lead to a meltdown, you can fight them. You will find peace and joy during the holidays with a bit of preparation and positive thinking. Keep your holiday stress at bay with mindful activities from JoyScore. Download the app now.

How to cope with loneliness this holiday season

November 23, 2020 by Bob Singhal

It’s started to get cold outside. And everyone knows what that means. Flannel weather and also that the holiday season is around the corner. The holiday season is a time of joy and love, but it can be a depressing time for far too many. Some people live far from family due to job/ personal responsibilities this time of year and miss seeing their loved ones; others dread going without a partner to holiday parties and New Year’s Eve gatherings and end up staying alone at home.

The following suggestions can help you cope up with loneliness this holiday season.

Be Good To Yourself During Holiday Season

It will make you feel better and enjoy your solitude more by taking special care of yourself. Curl up with a good book, engage in a hobby, learn something new, take a relaxing bath, and give yourself spa treatments. Taking time to do stuff will boost your self-esteem and give you a good dose of fun. It will take your mind off feeling alone and will also raise your spirits.

Foster a Pet this holiday season

Foster a Friend

Humans aren’t the only creatures who get lonely this time of the year. There are innumerable dogs, cats, bunny rabbits, and all sorts of cute critters who will spend the holidays alone in the shelter. It’s a fact that animal companionship provides an authentic source of connection to the people. It takes the edge off of those feelings of loneliness. If you cannot foster a pet due to some constraints, consider volunteering in an animal shelter, like taking dogs for a walk or playing with the kitty cats. That way, you will have a new friend, and the moments of connection will count.

Make connections

Whether you say hello to neighbors, share nice words with people in the workplace, or pick up the phone and call an old friend you haven’t talked to in a while, reaching out to people and strengthening relationships will make you feel more connected with the outside world.

Give to Others

When you support those who are less fortunate than you, It fills you with feelings of love and pride. It can also remind you of everything you need to be thankful for and even communicate with those who share your passion. You will be part of something greater than yourself and engulfed in the true spirit of the holiday season.

Examine Your Feelings

This one does not immediately make you feel better, but if you feel lonely a lot of the time, this might be a clue that there are some changes required for the coming year. You may want to explore what is behind your feelings of isolation, either alone or with a therapist’s assistance.

To Summarize…

Our emotions are just another part of what it means to be human. They are natural. So instead of trying to distract yourself or numb or avoid these feelings of loneliness, choose to accept that it’s ok to feel lonely. Is it possible to have a good holiday season even though you are carrying around some of those feelings of loneliness? Can you work on your health, enjoy some good meals, maybe create a work of art or read something that matters to you even though you are missing your family and friends. If so, that can make a difference.

We wish you a very happy holiday season. We hope you will be able to create some spaces of belonging, honor some of your traditions safely and responsibly, and that you’ll be able to make the most out of the receding days of the year. We are on a mission to spread joy and help you lead a meaningful and healthy life. Download the JoyScore app now to make these days more joyful with the numerous suggested activities. Happy Holidays!

The Power of Law of Attraction

November 9, 2020 by Bob Singhal

When you impress an idea upon your subconscious mind, it alters the vibration of this instrument we call the body. Our body is a molecular structure, a mass of energy at a very high vibrational speed. And how we use our mind dictates the beat of our existence. And the Law of Attraction sets into motion.

The Law of attraction says that the things you focus on, attract more of into your life. It is always in motion. Now, how does the Law of attraction work? All thoughts translate into things eventually, and what you focus on, expands. To understand this Law, first, you have to know that you always attract into your life the people, the things, the resources, the ideas in harmony with your dominant thoughts.

Law of Attraction

The Law of Attraction is the strongest in this universe. At this very moment, it is functioning in your life. You are always in a state of existence and creation. Each moment of every day, you are building your reality. With every single thought, you make your future, either in your conscious or subconscious mind. You can’t break from it because creation never stops.

Simply put, the Law says that you will pull into your life whatever you concentrate on. Whatever you allocate your energy and attention to will come back to you. You will naturally attract more positive things into your life if you remain focused on your life’s positive things. If you focus on negativity, then the same will get attracted to your life.

Like attracts like. If you feel excited, enthusiastic, passionate, happy, joyful, appreciative, or abundant, you send out positive energy.

On the other hand, if you feel bored, anxious, stressed out, angry, resentful, or sad, you send out negative energy. The universe will respond enthusiastically to each of these vibrations through the Law of Attraction. It doesn’t determine which one is better for you; it just reacts to whatever energy you are creating, giving you more of the same. You get back exactly what you give out there.

At any given moment, whatever you think and feel is your plea to the universe for more of the same. Ensure that you continuously send out energy, emotions, and feelings that resonate with what you want to be, do, and experience. Your energy waves will draw power back to you from the same frequencies. Your energy frequencies must be in tune with what you want to attract in your life. If joy and warmth are what you want to attract, you must build the vibrational frequencies of joy and warmth.

Take Positive Action!

Start by practicing awareness in your daily life. Strive to become more conscious of the extraordinary synchronicity of your life that already exists. Sweep away any negative feelings or emotions lingering. Sweep away any doubt. And then take actions every day that will move you toward your purpose and fulfill your dreams.

The Law of Attraction enables infinite possibilities, infinite abundance, and everlasting joy. It knows no order of difficulty, and if you let it, it will change your life in every way. Download the JoyScore app to experience unlimited Joy in your life.

How To Handle Positive And Negative Emotions

October 29, 2020 by Bob Singhal

“There is nothing good or bad. But, thinking makes it so.” Have you heard this quote before? That’s a very famous line from William Shakespeare’s play Hamlet. What does this have to do with creating and managing your emotions? Well, everything.

Most people think that our external circumstances dictate your emotions, moods, or feelings. For example, if someone pays you a compliment; you feel good and positive. On the flip side, you feel sad, angry, and stressed if you are experiencing negativity. Well, the secret to life is that what’s creating your emotions is not the environment. It’s you, it’s how you think about the environment that makes the emotions, and this is something that’s within your control and something that can be changed even when the external environment is against you. You can alter how you perceive, interpret, and react to it and thereby gain emotional mastery.

Emotions

Positive vs. Negative Emotions

Emotions sometimes are referred to as the spirit or the breath of life. They prescribe our actions and the colors of our life. Several strategies have been explored and recommended as a means of accepting and processing emotions. Here are three measures to help you address feelings.

Step 1: Identify the Emotion

  • Acknowledge your emotions. Don’t judge yourself for the feelings you feel. Take a deep breath and observe your thoughts which caused these feelings.
  • Don’t hide how you feel. You might not want to shout your feelings to others. But don’t suppress your feelings entirely. Instead, calm your mind and accept your feelings.
  • Know why you think the way you do. Analyze the circumstance that got you feeling the way you do.

Step 2: Take Action

  • Think about the best route to express your emotion. Is this a time when you need to confront someone else gently? Talk with a friend about what you’re feeling.
  • Learn how to change your mood. You’ll want to change from a pessimistic attitude to an optimistic one at a particular stage. Try to indulge in things that give you joy, even though at the moment you don’t feel like it.
  • Build positive emotions. Positive feelings provide a sense of happiness and well being.
  • Seek support. Talk about how you’re feeling with a trusted friend or seek help from a therapist.
  • Exercise. Physical exercise allows the brain to create natural chemicals that facilitate a festive mood.

Step 3: Get Help With Difficult Emotions

Sometimes, under no circumstances, you can’t shake a challenging emotion. Consult a counselor or a therapist if you find yourself trapped in feelings of depression or worry for more than 2 weeks.

To Summarise…

Use what you have learned here to strengthen your understanding of your feelings and achieve greater awareness and stability of your emotional state. You won’t regret it! You can do this by taking the journey inwards. Download JoyScore app to lead a mindful and content life.

Unlock Your Inner Peace With Meditation

October 23, 2020 by Bob Singhal

Do you think life is a complicated puzzle? It’s an interesting analogy that indicates how important placing all the right pieces together is, if you want to see the bigger picture. If I compare life with a Jigsaw puzzle, I could find more resemblance between the two. That’s precisely why some people use this analogy to understand life and the difficulties that come with finding your path. And meditation can solve this puzzle to a greater extent.

A girl in nature

If you take time to step back, slow down and quiet the mind (via exercise, spending time in nature, meditation, yoga, or whatever relaxes you), you can start hearing what your soul has to say, and it will guide you in the direction of a joyful and healthy life. Listen to it. Notice its whispers. Find ways to connect with it more often. That’s how your life should be.

Meditation was something that initially was very hard for me. It’s challenging to slow down or stop your mind when it has been in default mode your whole life. Only by practicing it daily for the last few months can I see some visible changes in myself and, and I’m so grateful to have this habit in my lifestyle as it’s not only a habit – it’s a way of living.

Meditation may have ancient roots, but it’s still practiced worldwide to create a sense of calm and inner harmony. Meditation is more about altering consciousness, seeking awareness, and achieving peace. Meditation is gaining popularity these days, with the increased need to relieve tension amid our busy schedules and stressful lives. The pressure of work, paying bills, looking after the family, and all the other modern-day stresses is why we need meditation now more than ever. With our busy lives, it’s essential to make time to sit with your thoughts.

Though there isn’t any right or wrong way to meditate, it’s necessary to find a practice that suits your requirements and complements your persona. There are five popular types of meditation practice:

Mindfulness Meditation.

Here, you concentrate on your thoughts as they pass through your mind.

Spiritual Meditation.

It’s similar to a prayer. You focus on the silence surrounding you and seek a deeper connection with your God or Universe.

Focused Meditation.

It involves focus using any of the five senses.

Movement Meditation.

This practice may include walking through the parks, gardening, and other gentle motion forms.

Mantra Meditation.

To clear the mind, this form of meditation uses a repetitive sound that can be an expression, word, or sound, such as the famous “Om.”

You might have to explore different meditations to know which method is suitable for you. These practices require different skills and mindsets.

Empathy Is Important

October 13, 2020 by Bob Singhal

Even the smallest act of consideration for another person is like a drop of water falling in a lake. It will make ripples throughout. The act of caring for others is so significant because, when people rely on each other for emotional support, it builds deeper bonds. It also teaches essential virtues such as loyalty, patience, and understanding that help individuals grow in their personal and professional lives.

Being compassionate helps to empathize with others and live a life focused on the people around you, friendship, devotion, and compassion. It can be enticing to slip into an egotistical life and concentrate solely on your ambitions and desires. In contrast, your days will be far more rewarding if you think about what the people in your life are thinking and feeling. Caring involves having a listening ear, recognizing when someone needs assistance, and supporting the community without asking for a reward.

Get started with the following if you want to know how to be more compassionate today.

Ways you can show care

  1. Develop a More Empathetic Perspective
  2. Be sensitive to the feelings of others.
  3. Review the consequences of your actions on other people.
  4. Refuse to Argue and Pick Your Battles.
  5. Appreciate the people in your life.
  6. Push away feelings of selfishness.
  7. Apologize Often, Even If You’re Not Wrong.
  8. Do Something Unexpected.
  9. Sharing is Caring.
  10. Wake Every Morning with Gratitude.

One of the most treasured and personally fulfilling roles a person can play in their lifetime is caring for others. Its benefits extend to the recipient and those who provide the care, from having a stronger sense of purpose to new life skills. You can develop your caring qualities by being polite and affectionate.

You will experience the following benefits while caring for others:

Feeling Good

Caring for others bestows benefits that most people often don’t experience in their daily jobs. It gives more significant meaning and purpose to our lives, helping us refocus on the more essential things in life – our relationships and co-existence with the people around us.

Feeling Affectionate and Building Strong Relationships

Caring about others helps cultivate empathy, even in tough times, and communicate with others. Family caregiving improves sibling activity/sharing for teens, which is their struggle. The act of care for another is significant because it builds deeper bonds when people rely on each other for emotional support.

Feeling Valued and Experiencing Personal Growth

Taking care of someone else helps us think about the best ways to do things, whether it’s financial planning or future planning. Caring for others gives a unique opportunity to gain intangible benefits that last a lifetime.
